How do i block adware and spyware?

I have all the mainstream programs Webroot Spysweaper. Webroot Window washer, Ad Aware, HijackThis, Zone arms, avast! Antivirus, AVG and some registry cleaning programs. My computer is still sluggish after executing all programs and doing a complete system sweep.

Is there any other software that big corporations use that is recommended.

and is there anyway for me to post some documentation for someone to examine to see what system alterations i could make... i have a Intel celerom 1.2 ghz machine.

PS in the process of building my own pc but still interested in improving the current machine
