Best overall computer security program?

Hi,

I had a major computer problem a few days ago, and I had to reformat my computer. I was using AVG Free Edition to protect my computer, but it didn't detect a virus that came on my computer and made a lot of things unaccessible.

I'm now using Avast! Professional, and was wondering what was the best all round security program, including internet security that stops unwanted software installing itself etc.
