yes, mostly they do. but they usu. have an exp. date so you have to download it again when it expires, or find another free one. ;)

Free programs can be either freeware or open source. Whereas freeware versions are usually cut-short versions of their respective shareware, open source software are full versions available for free. For example, Avast! Home Edition has 6 real time guards while Avast! Professional Edition has 7. Similarly, ZoneAlarm Basic provides only basic security, while ZoneAlarm Pro provides optimum firewall features. On the other hand, OpenOffice is completely open source and offers the entire package for free. In most cases, a paid-for software has a free alternative which is nearly as good or even better. OpenOffice is an excellent substitute for MS-Office, Avast! Home outshines most of the non-free anti-viruses including Norton and McAfee, whereas Comodo Personal Firewall is the best firewall present and it's free!
