Virus protection?

Hello! I'm not very good with computers and I'm trying to find a good virus protection/spyware program for my computer, something that i can download for free. I've been told to try avast. Any thoughts?

Avast is OK also.

Much of it is personal preference.
If you arenot familiar with PCs kindly note that you should not visit doubtful sites that are not famiiar to you. You can install some better antivirus and anti spywares and scan the PC.Please aisit the following sites for more details.
