Know any good free Anti Virus download that won't slow down your computer.?

My hard drive recently burned out and i lost everything i was running Nortions only it was not a licenes copy,my brother-in-law intalled it.And he is almost imposable to find these days so i found this free anti virus site and downloaded the program right away i noticed a considarable diffrance in the speed of my computer.It runs really slow and i suspect it is the anti virus program i am running called Avast.Has any one eles had this priblem?

AVG Anti-Virus, it has superb virus protection, good updating engine, and superb email monitoring...

I use Avast Pro, any anti-virus is going to hog resources for the "Real time Protection" they must in order to protect PC, but AVG will work for you if you want Free, the old saying " you get what you pay for"....

AVG Anti-Virus is the absolute pinacle of free anti-virus technology. It has found viruses and trojans that McAfee and Norton have missed!

I would strongly recommend it.

However if you live in Canada and your ISP is Telus, you have a free subscription to their Security Services, which comes with Anti-Virus and it is fairly good.
I am using Norton but you can also use Kaspersky antivirus. It is a good antivirus program. McAfee also works.
