Computer crashed?

i tried downloading a antivirus program it was a avast intivirus when i downloaded it it told me to restart the computer so it can be installed something happened it just doesnt want to start it goes into the xp start up and just freezes. it sends me into the safe mode or normal start that you can go into by pressing f8 i tried starting it in safe and normal mode but nothing i cant get in to my windows is it some kind of virus and if so how can i fix it

Well, if you have a windows XP CD.



You can change your settings in the BIOS, by pressing the DEL key while the PC is loading up. You want to make your CDROM the 1st boot device.



Then you can insert your XP CD, and recover or re-install xp.



I would first try use recovery mode, and doing a scan disk on the hard drive.

why would you want avast antivirus?!? try to use bitdefender antivirus instead. your system will be fine in no time.
Have you tried booting from previously known working settings,this is an option in f8 safe mode.



I use avast and it works well so I guess there is a conflict on your computer.



If you re-install windows xp this will correct any missing xp files but it may not rid your computer of the conflict.However once you can boot your computer then you can delete Avast or roll back to pre Avast installation.
