Whats the best way to kill everything on your harddrive for ever?

I am doing a fresh installation soon,Will that get rid of all the data that is already on the hard drive? or do i need a program to kill all data so no one can get hold of it? I need to get rid of the viruses stored in my avast chest,will deleting the partition do that.the virus was system volume restore.last time i tried that on a different pc it just kept on coming back.So i need something thats going to destroy everything forever,and i mean everything for good

well .. a normal partition delete and format should be sufficient for normal use ... if u want to go up a step u could use somthing like partition magic that offeres a secure erase feature .. writes zeros all the way through .. its best to do the drive in slave mode ..

yeah burn it and get a new one or take it to a specialist
As your question implies, there is a software called killdisk. It will turn your hard drive brand new!!!! But you need a floppy to boot and wipe the hard disk.
